Sensational Sixes

End of term…

Wow! It seems that the old saying really is true…Time flies when you are having fun! The first term is done and dusted and what a wonderful term it has been. Busy – definitely! Productive – absolutely! Enjoyable – YES! YES! YES!

It is now time for children, teachers and parents to enjoy a break from routine and to hopefully recharge the batteries.

Without the usual hustle and bustle, the school really is a lonely place.  We look forward to new challenges and new adventures next term!

Our Delicious Earth

We have just recently wrapped up our first Mapwork section in Social Sciences. Within this section we looked at many different aspects, from Atlas Skills to Exploration to Map Projections. The children learned that there are three common map projections. We then did an activity to demonstrate with an orange, a permanent marker and a scalpel, how the Earth changes from a spherical globe to a 2-dimensional map.

This was a great example of learning through doing and showed that, as is the norm at Elkanah House, learning is fun!

The Elkanah SP Gala 2014

055 042 009

On Saturday 8 March, the Elkanah Senior Primary Interhouse Gala took place.
The morning began with many passionate war cries ringing out around the pool, screams of Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald passion! The competition was fierce and and the Gees was rocking!
As expected, records were broken! With Duncan Edwards (three records)and Nuria Ribeiro (two records) being the most successful swimmers on the day!
In the end, Sapphire showed the most passion and cheer, walking away with the spirit cup. The real victory however, lay at the feet of Emerald House, the overall winners on the day!
Well done to Emerald House on a deserved victory!
Until we swim again…

Swimming Gala

This upcoming Saturday will be our annual swimming gala. There has been great excitement amongst the students- our Grade 6’s especially.

Last week our houses met up and captains were fairly chosen by the students. Spirits were at a high as they had the opportunity to meet in their houses and captains and cheerleaders got to share war cries that they have been working on with their fellow house mates. Cheers could be heard from all over the school shouting mixtures of EMERALD, SAPPHIRE and RUBY!!!

Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby

Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby.

This week the lists were put up and crowds flocked to see who would be swimming which events.

The students were very curious to see the list.

We are all looking forward to the gala and wait in anticipation for who the victor will be! All the best to the Grade 6’s!!!
