The Gr 6 classes of 2017 are currently enjoying time out at Rocklands, Simons Town. Yesterday, Wednesday, the pupils were treated to a number of physically demanding activities, culminating in a beautiful night hike (we even had drizzle to add to the mood!). Today, Thursday, we had a crazy wind to deal with but we still managed an outing to the beach! More physical activities and of course a light concert quickly filled the day. One more day tomorrow, time passes by too quickly!
Dear Grade 6 Parents
As we end off a successful Grade 6 year, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of you for your support and encouragement towards your children and us as teachers.
The year has ended with a successful Celebratory Assembly and a fun-filled Grade 6 Farewell party! the year has been a good one!
We bid farewell to you and wish you all the best in 2017 as the children head off to Grade 7 to face new exciting adventures.
We wish you all a very restful holiday, a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year ahead.
The Grade 6 Team
On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week the Grade 6 classes had the opportunity to visit the Cape Town Stadium. We were taken on a guided tour to parts of the stadium that one does not usually get to see. We even got to go down to the field and into the change rooms where famous players and superstars get to prepare for their upcoming events.
It was an interesting outing and the sheer size and detail taken into consideration when designing and building the stadium was mind blowing.
This was then followed by a visit to Greenpoint Park, where we ate a much needed snack and the pupils had a chance to explore the impressive ‘big kid’ playpark. Although I am not convinced that eating lunch and riding on those spinning cups is the best combination.
We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather for our outings.
Perhaps the next time one of our children enter that change room, it will be a Springbok rugby player or as famous singer!
We would also like to welcome our newest member to the grade 6 team, Joshua Walker. Congratulations Mr. Walker and family to the newest addition to the Walker family.
After completing “Meervoude” this week, the children had to create their own collages with “Meervoude”. It was so much fun seeing them being creative and boy was there some new strange Afrikaans words. I absolutely enjoyed all of their hard work this week.
You go grade 6 !!!
It is a funny thing how many of us spend most of our lives not knowing much, if anything, about our surnames and where they come from. Yet, our surnames are the first sense of belonging we are given, our first identity.
The grade 6s were given the task of researching their surname as well as their family history. They then had to present their findings to the class in the form of an oral…and it has been fascinating!
It has been wonderful to learn about the diverse backgrounds which we all come from and to be able to celebrate our heritage. Many of the children have been very surprised by what they have learned about their parents, grandparents and forefathers.
What a fun and special way to learn more about each other!
A Visit to Intaka Island
On Wednesday the 17th and Thursday the 18th of February, the Gr 6 pupils visited Intaka Island in Century City. It is a fascinating place as it is situated right in the heart of Century City amongst all the buildings. It is a natural wetland that has been looked after through all the development around it. It is a place of sanctuary for the birds. We took a trip around the wetlands by boat, learnt about alternative sources of energy, and had the opportunity to learn more about our local bird population. A place of great beauty amongst the concrete jungle, we recommend you visit the island yourself!
“If you don’t know what a DIFTONG is, please I dare you ask a grade 6, they will tell you with no hassle.”
Ons het ook die geleentheid gehad, om ons Afrikaanse storieboeke te hervertel deur om prente te teken en plakkate te maak van ons unieke stories.
VIVA AFRIKAANS !!!!!!
