The Grade 6s have kicked off their year investigating the musical, Wicked. In Drama they are listening to and unpacking the lyrics of songs while in Design and Technology the practical element comes in. In pairs, they have to design and then create a hat that symbolises the themes they have drawn from the lyrics. The hats are made by fusing plastic bags together using an iron – a skill many had to get to grips with! So far the lessons have been abuzz with problem-solving and planning in between chatting to other pairs for ironing tips. We can’t wait to see the end results!
The grade sixes were lucky enough to begin our year off with an awesome outing to the beach. We spent the morning at Small Bay and we were spoilt with incredible weather and a very low tide.
Besides frolicking in the waves, most of the children enjoyed a walk out to ‘the island’ with Mr Walker and Mr Stone. An incredible time was had by all, including the teachers.
Unfortunately not all of our days can be spent like this but it has certainly set the tone for the year. It was wonderful to have an opportunity to get to know one another and to just have fun.
We are all excited for the year ahead. Here we come, Grade Sixes of 2015!
Wow! It seems that the old saying really is true…Time flies when you are having fun! The first term is done and dusted and what a wonderful term it has been. Busy – definitely! Productive – absolutely! Enjoyable – YES! YES! YES!
It is now time for children, teachers and parents to enjoy a break from routine and to hopefully recharge the batteries.
Without the usual hustle and bustle, the school really is a lonely place. We look forward to new challenges and new adventures next term!
