Last week the Grade 6’s participated in another exciting ILT based on The Democratic Election Process. This was done over the course of three days.
On Day 1 they were instructed to get into groups of four. In these group they came up with their own party- it had to have a name, slogan, logo, etc. They had to then select a party leader and as a team, create an electoral poster with the use of their iPads. Following this, they learnt the importance of reaching all the political parties target by creating an Afrikaans pamphlet for their created party. Speeches were made, presented and a class vote was cast. It was great for the students to let their creativity, group and leadership skills reign free.
On Day 2 they had to work in pairs to create a powerpoint with regards to the change in South Africa’s Coat of Arms, our flag, etc. It was great to see the students creating amazing slide shows with the use of their iPads- they know so much!
On the last day- Day 3, was the grand finale! After using some mathematical skills and compiling a graph, the preparation for the final vote commensed. Alterations and appointments with Mr. Preston were made in final preparation. All the Grade 6’s, along with their teachers met in the hall to listen to the final four speeches. Ballot papers were handed out and votes were made and counted. The competition was stiff, and the winner was announced- Cami Nieuwstad!!! Congratulations to all involved!
